Our major findings are a published executive summary, which includes a set of 9 recommendations for creating, sustaining, and assessing professional development systems for practicing mathematics teachers to support the implementation of the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics (CCSSM), and a full report that includes a collection of brief individual analyses (about 2 pages long) written by key scholars and experts in different fields about what it would take, from the perspective of their research fields, to implement and assess quality mathematics professional development at scale, using a system approach to the task.
These recommendations are based on current knowledge from existing research. They were created by researchers and practictioners in fields of knowledge such as mathematics, mathematics education, policy studies, and systems research contribute, and address meaninful ways of assessing the progress in implementing high-quality professional. Generated from the coordination of research-based knowledge in different but related fields, these recommendations can be used in the design and implementation of large-scale professional development systems for all teachers who are being asked to put the mathematics CCSS into practice.
